CULTURE OF NEGOTIATION
Gerakan, is famous of culture of negotiation, a.k.a. culture of coordination.
Any disagreements, and disputes, will brought to the table of negotiation, and hopefully after some compromise and give-and-take, a win-win solution can be reached.
However, in this win-win solution, are you sured there is no losers?
Well, the rights of the members have been deprived, until they feel they are irrelevant in the party. Why said so? Because everything has been negotiated by the leaders, without consulting the members.
Sooner and later, the members become inactive. And then, the party without active member, become irrelevant. The leaders do not know what the member want, and the member do not bother the leader do.
I do agree, negotiation is a healthy process, in solving the dispute. But, using “influence“, forcing two “unwilling parties” to negotiate, may not benefit the party.
Yesterday, I spent my morning with a very senior member (25 years) in a division of Bukit Glugor. He is influential in the division, but he chose not to interfere in the party election at the division level.
“Winning unopposed, is not something healthy for a political party. The winner does not know how much supports that he had, and the withdrawer keep on underestimate himself.”
This year, we see Bukit Glugor division has several contests on certain posts, included the Youth Chief.
He is kind of optimistic over competition.
He questioned me, “Do you think party will lose anything if there is a serious competition among the candidates? Let the member decide the fate of the party. Leaders are merely elected and executing the wishes of the members.“
Read my earlier comments on the negotiation. I have said from the start that this culture is slowly but definitely killing your Party.
Compromising is a way to achieve average results. Healthy competition is a way of deriving the best results.
Does Gerakan always wanted to be average Party only ?
Based on the track record since its successes in 1968/1969, it has never been able to repeat this again. Too much compromised since then.
The whole issue is that Gerakan compromised everything with UMNO and this is what makes a lot of voters not to be associated with your Party anymore.
Lets me share with ALL GERAKAN MEMBERS esp Grass Roots Members on this article in Malaysiakini.

This article really reflect the current political scene in GERAKAN esp. the two candidates for Youth Chief
I guess Gerakan has enough with all these negotiations thing around, it will only make Gerakan to go down, and will never grow. As a healthy and confident party, should not fear of challenge and competitions. Same goes to the members and leaders. Don’t you think that if you win from competition will be more proud compare to negotiation? By competitions the members can see for their own eyes whether or not you are capable, which sometimes the ‘upper level’ unable to see (as sometimes some leaders are good in ‘magic show’).
To be a good leader, should not fear of challenges; to be a greater leader, should not fear of competitions. Winning or loosing should not be the priority to think of. Should be thinking “how should i serve the public or deliver my
job well even though i win or lose”
We all should be positive in order to grow.
May the force be with us too.
