40 years ago, on the 10th May, Gerakan received the mandate from the people and began to govern Penang.

Since then, Gerakan have extended its influence to other states and transform into a national party.

However due to the indecisiveness and ineffectiveness of Gerakan being a political party as well as a political party, the people decided to reject Gerakan’s candidates in the last General Election which held on 8th March 2008.

Thereafter, Gerakan has become irrelevant in Malaysian main stream politics. The disbeliefs from component parties, the disapprovals from the people and the abandons from the party members have put Gerakan in a difficult situation.

Gerakan tries to positioning itself as an effective and constructiveopposition’, but the party is heading nowhere, besides being a situational political party.

On certain issues, Gerakan took a bold stand but spineless action. The party stand on Internal Security Act is one of the clear examples.

On other issues, Gerakan was silent and ignorant as if there is nothing happen. How Gerakan responded (or silence) on the political motivated detention of Wong Chin Huat, in another case of examples.

On another issues, Gerakan was acting like empty vessel. The party has no stand but pushing others to make a stand. Example, on the local governments’ elections, Gerakan is unsure about its stand but persistently pushing Pakatan Rakyat to honour their election manifesto.

So, is Gerakan incorrigible? Your guess is as good as my guess. Let the history to judge this.

But with the longer delay, the sooner the party will become total irrelevant in Malaysian politics.

Who says that they are relevant? They became irrelevant ever since Keng Yaik too power and Tsu Khoon is now a measurement ruler for KPIs. Suggest disbanding the party and join the Pakatan. You will become more relevant.

As I have predited in the MT during the last GE, Gerakan will lose Penang and become a mosquito party. Same ending like PPP. The present leader like KSK must be replace by a stronger leader with a better leadership. Unfortunately now Gerakan has no other more stronger leader to take over.
During the last GE I predited that Gerakan will lose Penang due to 3 reason.
    1) Gerakan surrender the right of choosing the next chief minister to UMNO to decide. The chief minister is the right of Gerakan and why KSK has let UMNO to decide this position?
    2) KSK alllow Hisamuddin and KJ to hantam him without any reply. Remember you are a president of BN component party. how can you allow UMNO youth to hantam you without any response?
    3) KJ hantam Gerakan saying malays are being marginilise in Balik Pulau. Yuo did not response and allow them to hantam you all the way. Total silence is no good for a politician and for any political party. Total silence will cause the people of Penang to loose confidence in Gerakan cos they are worried that if BN win the election in Penang, you will also surrender the chief minister position to UMNO as well. It is your mistake and silence to cause Gerakan to become irrevellent. Remember the strong leaership of previous president like Lim Chong Yu and Lim Keng yik. These 2 previous president are not silent politician. Gerakan unless you reform or else you end up like PPP today.

    Bro,

    susah hati!

what is gerakan good for now?

like a supporting cast in the coup in Perak?

like grabbing land meant for public utilities in Bandar Utama?

like a puppet for UMNO in return for positions via the backdoor?

It has abandoned its ideals in return for government goodies and that spells doom for any political party and gerakan will be no exception.

One day, Rustam is gonna say the same thing if ever he is invited to officiate the assembly-”if you dont like it, leave BN now.and not later for…..”.

You dont need to be prescient to predict correctly Gerakan will be another mosquito party, just like PPP, which will have to beg for the little crumbs.

    Why become irrelevant ?

    1) Some of their leaders still doesn understand the reason why they are being rejected. They didnt loose the election. They just drove the voters to vote for Pakatan without alternative choice.

    2) Gerakan them revamp. Deliver program like Cat Watch. However, they forgot to ask does this program brings them an inch closer to taking back the seats from Pakatan ?
The rakyat will say, thanks for the good show. We enjoy them but no, we will not give our votes to you.

    3) Gerakan lost in their direction. Where to go and how to go ?

    4) Leaders who are pass their useful life but still hanging on to the position. Well, this is how they “LOVE” their party. Hanging on and denying others the position to contribute.

    5) Still waiting for UMNO to lead. UMNO has already lead you to your downfall. What else are you waiting for ?

  7. FACTS:
Gerakan is multi-racial based party with Chinese dominance. Chinese is angry with Gerakan for long time and explodes on 308 election. Time has changed!
Gerakan leaders hold on government post depend on blessing from Umno.
Gerakan leaders tend to hide inside Umno’s sarung compare to MCA beside sarung.
As time pass, Gerakan ineffective in defend the peoples interest but only care about own ‘pocket money’.
Gerakan has no role in check and balance the dominance power of Umno in government.
Gerakan lost power in Penang because KSK leadership.
Gerakan fall into Umno’s game in bargaining power with MCA seen as splitting ethnic Chinese.
Gerakan won two parlimentary seats on Umno blessing.
Gerakan will continue depend on Umno not Malaysians to survive.

    VoP,

Read the above comments then understand why I felt so betrayed by your party’s president. I HAD given him unflinching loyalty for 10 years before 8 March 2008 and I resigned my post as assistant secretary of FAP when he resigned his post as president of FAP as a sign of solidarity with him.

Look how he betrayed my faith in him when today he is more concerned with party politics than with the welfare of the country.

I would have stood beside him still if only he had taken Gerakan out of the BN and away from the UMNO bastards who rape this country of ours till this day!

I did not set out to oppose your party. Your president and his eunuchs did that for me!

I do wish that Gerakan TOP Leader has read your blog, so that they will know directly what’s going on in Penang, and how people really think about Gerakan now a days.

    Change, is a must!

    Reply to Defendermalaysia,

Thanks for your comment. I agreed with you, as the tagline of this blog said, “A silent politician is no politician as silent politics is equal to zero politics.”

    Reply to Damocles,

You are really my good brother-at-politics. Yes, it’s painful.

    Reply to Badenglish,

Your analysis is critical. But I offer no solution to your analytical views. I am incapable.

    Reply to HIDEsarungumno,

It is coming, and it seems Gerakan may not escape from its fate.

    Reply to Romerz,

My brother-at-politics, I feel your pain too.

    Reply to JTCM,

I have no ideas whether they read or not. But, am I relevant to them ?

Wah… seeking publicity is it? You want publicity, quit the party and hold PC to whack Koh ‘No Spine’ Tsu Khoon.

You know what MIC and PPP call Koh in Cabinet? A ‘woman’. That’s what you have for a president.

Stand up to the big bully and voice out without fear or favour on behalf of the people. Go back to the founding ideology of a fair and equal society… That is the way to go for Gerakan, but unfortunately, we are now like the lifeboat in the Titanic which is on course to crash into the iceburg and sink. I have argued and argued that we must throw the lifeboat out of the titanic and not sink together with it…

voice out. If the big bully cannot stand us voicing out, they can kick us out. So what if we are out. SO what if we do not win a single seat outside of BN.. AT least , we are truthful to our ideology.

I agree with you that it is now fast becoming more and more irrelevant…
