“He who angers you conquers you. ” – Elizabeth Kenny
Malaysians are losing their patience and rationality gradually. The ordinary citizens tend to get angry easily whenever we heard of those “seditious statements”.
Worst still, most of the time, we heard it from politicians and civil servants.
Well, our Sedition Act 1948 had well defined “what” tends to be seditious.
Among others, it includes those statements which would “bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against” the government or engender “feelings of ill-will and hostility between different races”.
The legal definition above may look “objective”, but practically it is very subjective – what sounds seditious to me may not sound seditious to you.
Therefore, the “bananas” in the Namawee’s not-so-civilized music video are seditious to some of the people.
At the same time, I believe the enforcement officer has a different measurement tape, which is totally different from the majority of the ordinary citizens.
Therefore, I would not be surprise that some politicians like Ahmad Ismail, Bung Mokhtar and Ibrahim Ali, whom obviously speak “the language which no one can understands”, are escaping from the enforcement.
Yes, some of their statements do make me feel uncomfortable. However, I try my best “to defend to the death their right to say it”.
Perhaps, I am immune from these “seditious statements” over the time. The more these jokers say, that show how idiotic they are.
Well, I am a big fan for the abolition of Sedition Act.
I strongly believe, those politicians who play racist card consistently, we need to deal with them democratically – let us just vote them out.
I’ve decided. Have you?
The seditious act only applies to the minority! The majority can speak anything and will not subject to this act bcos of this ‘ketuanan’ stigma. If this is not apartheid then what is?
CITIZEN,
I think, those who are unfavored the ruling coalition, is “minority”, although this “minority” outnumbers the “majority”.
